On shipping slop
It has never been easier to ship something that looks like finished thinking but isn't.
I'm working on a product spec right now. AI produced a complete draft in 20 minutes. Two hours later, I'm still at it. Yes, I'm using AI the entire time.
The 20-minute version looked done. Problem statement, requirements, tradeoffs, a recommendation. But I know what happens when I bring that version to my engineering team: the first question exposes a gap, then the second, then someone asks about an edge case I hadn't thought through, and I'm improvising answers I don't actually believe.
So instead I'm sitting with the product decisions. Which direction to take, what to prioritize and what to cut. How to frame the tradeoffs so my team can have a productive debate instead of a confused one. The spec is just where those decisions land. It doesn't look that different from the 20-minute version, but the thinking underneath it is completely different.
The bottleneck in product work was never "I can't write this fast enough." It was "I haven't thought through this deeply enough."
The thinking still takes what it takes.
